A passive sentence is one which describes something being done something, such as "the boy was hit" or "the song was sung". In te reo Māori this is indicated by a passive ending on the verb:
Kei te aroha te whaea ki te tamaiti.
The mother loves the child. (active)
Kei te arohaina te tamaiti e tōna whaea.
The child is loved by his mother. (passive)
To negate a passive sentence, we begin with kāore.
Kāore rāua i whāia e Hēmi.
They were not chased by Hēmi.Kāore a Taika i te whāia e rātou.
Taika is not being chased by them.Kāore a Aria i te whāia.
Aria is not being chased.Kāore te kōtiro i te kitea e tōna māmā.
The girl is not being seen by her mother.Kāore te āporo e tohia e Mere.
The apple will not be picked by Mere.Kāore anō ngā rīhi kia horoia e ngā tamariki.
The dishes have not been washed by the children.Kāore anō te pātītī kia tapahia e au.
The grass has not been cut by me.Kāore te papa e whakapaingia e ngā tamariki.
The floor will not be cleaned by the children.Kāore ngā hū i hokona e Hōne.
The shoes were not bought by Hōne.Kāore te waiata i waiatatia e ngā tauira.
The song was not sung by the students.Kāore anō kia kitea e ia tāna tamāhine.
He has not yet found his daughter.Kāore te mahi i mahia e ngā tamariki.
The work was not done by the children.Kāore te kēmu e whakatauria e te kaiwawao.
The game will not be decided by the referee.Kāore tēnei e tukua kia haere e ia.

The friend is not being helped by me.Kāore te pātītī i tapahia e au.

The cat was not fed by Rangi.Kāore te ngeru e patua e te kurī.
The cat will not be attacked by the dog.Kāore anō kia kitea te kōtiro a ngā kaikimi.
The girl has not yet ben found by the searchers.Kāore anō kia kitea te kōtiro iti.
The little girl has not yet been found.Kāore anō aua nanakia kia whiua.

The topic is not being discussed by the teacher.Kāore te wharepaku e kīia e ngā manuhiri.
The bathroom will not be used by the guests.Kāore te whare e whakatikahia e ngā kaimahi.
The house will not be fixed by the workers.Kāore te pōro i te tākarohia e ngā tamariki.
The ball is not being played with by the children.Kāore ia i te kimihia e ōna hoa.
His friends aren't looking for him.
