Statives with 'i' - i a, i te, i ngā

A stative describes a state such as being broken or consumed or full.

The person or thing that has brought about that state is marked by i.

I mahue ia i te pahi.
He was left behind by the bus.

I ora au i a koe.
I have been made well by you.

This is a difference between statives and passives, since passives mark the person or thing doing the action with e.

The money was taken by Rangi.

The bird was killed by the wind.

Kua hinga te rākau i te hau.
The tree was knocked down by the wind.

Kua kākāriki te karaehe i te nui o te ua.
The grass is green from all the rain.

The petrol was all used up by Manu.

Mere has lost her bag. (Her bag has been lost by Mere.)
