In English there are words that can be used as both a verb or a noun.
I run every day. I am going for a run.
I like to fish in the river. There are lots of fish in the river.
Try not to fart! Who did that smelly fart?
In te reo Māori there are also words that can be both a verb and a noun.
I waiata ngā wāhine i te waiata.
The women sang the song.
Kei te oma ahau. He pai tāku oma.
I am running. The run is good.
"Fish" is not one of these words in Māori. The noun for fish is ika and the verb is hī (to fish with a rod) or hao (to fish with a net).
