For the purpose of - hei

For the purpose of, as, as a means of, for the purpose of doing something.

Hei must be followed by a transitive verb, and can't be followed by an intransitive verb or a passive verb. (You can't say hei noho or hei tirohia.)

Can can be followed by a verb (in order to do something) or a noun (as something).

Kei konei koe hei āwhina.
You're here to help.

Kōrerohia te reo Māori hei oranga mōna.
Speak te reo Māori for its wellbeing.

He aha te pukapuka pai hei pānui ngā tamariki?
